Okay, this blog is a slight divergence, but hopefully not too much. I’d like to quote a stanza from a Robert Frost poem. The title is The Road Not Taken.

 I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

But what does it mean to take the road less traveled? So you jump off a cliff — is that a road less traveled? I would certainly hope so! But it is certainly not a path I would advocate. Still, let’s say that physical safety is not an issue. Both paths are equally physically safe. If that were true, wouldn’t it also be true that any difference between the paths could be construed as pathways through the individuation that Carl Jung talked so frequently about?

And if that is the case, then clearly the poetic last stanza of the Robert Frost poem is suggesting that individuation is best done by nothing pre-programmed. That is, go forth and explore. take the road less traveled. And therein lies the potential.
